Serious Respect.

Respect to Jeffrey Lee.

JEFFREY LEE is not interested in the soaring price of uranium, which could make him one of the world’s richest men.

Mr Lee is the last representative of the Djok clan and therefore custodian of land so rich in uranium that French energy giants Areva have offered him $5 billion for the mining rights.

Koongarra lies in the Kakadu national park and is on top of a deposit of 14,000 tonnes of high quality uranium. But it’s also a land rich in belief and tradition.

"I was taken all through here on the shoulder of my grandmother … I heard all the stories and learnt everything about this land, and I want to pass it all on to my kids."

Koongarra is rich in much more than mere minerals. Jeffery Lee, I don’t suppose you will ever read this but your choice brought tears to my eyes and I rejoice that someone has the courage to stand against the giants and draw a line in the sand for the earth that raised generations of your people. I hope that many more generations of many people can see your land for themselves for years to come. Land not torn apart for greed.
