Roast chicken is an iconic dish in British culture.  It probably ranks close to the top of most people’s list of favourite foods.  It may be affordable for the masses, but it is also fit for a king.

But how many of you know about the life your fresh supermarket chickens lead before they reach your table?  That their short, intensively farmed indoor existence is managed like a factory production line, to ensure the big retailers can sell them to you for as little as £2 a bird?  Is that all the life an animal, born and raised to feed us, is worth?

Free range tastes better, looks better and is just better.  Besides Hugh showed me how to make better cakes, it’ll take a few seconds, go sign up.

  1. Done. I was brought up with chickens for their egg production, so I’ve always had a special affection for them. Folks just don’t realise how sociable and friendly and like pets they become. Ours would wander into the kitchen and make themselves at home and some like to be picked up and stroked. It’s truly horrific the way that these birds are treated by factory farming. Well done Sarah and I’ve forwarded this to a few of my friends.
