No Men Allowed - Sexist?
A conference being held in Birmingham, with female guest speakers to help support women in business, has been criticised for only allowing women to attend.
The business world is bound in tradition, in capitalism, in money making and is controlled by men. Finally there are women running businesses and beginning to step up to do things differently and the male dominated business world doesn’t like it.
I think it ridiculous and outdated and I am sick of it all! I enjoy working with men. I like men. Women want it all their own way these days. For goodness sake, GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!
(from the comments) "All their own way"??? I wish we could have some things our way, I really do. The patriarchal, capitalist conditioning runs so deep that we don’t see it, we don’t fully appreciate the depth of it. Even women in positions of authority in any size business are expected to conform to the male business model of ruthlessly wringing every penny of profit that it is possible to make without any real consideration for any other human being, any culture, any environmental impact they may have. Fit the box, follow the rules and you might stand a chance of being allowed in the board room.
And when we strike out on our own? We’re accused of sexism. They try to take away the small amount of control we’ve found.
But you know what I’ve found, what I’ve seen? Women running businesses do it well. We do it differently, but we do it very very well indeed and we form communities while doing it. We form alliances, bonds and friendships and we give as much as we take.
A woman only business conference can only be a good thing as far as I’m concerned, I just wish I could attend.
